Back at the Track: Scanning SAFER Barriers at Rockingham Speedway
Any day at the track is a good day! This spring, Trimble Civil Construction featured our work at Rockingham Speedway, where Tad Abraham scanned the track’s SAFER barriers.
SAFER barriers, the energy-absorbing walls that protect drivers, have to fit the track precisely. Tad captured the barriers with a Trimble SX12 scanning total station and processed the data in Trimble Business Center into a detailed 3D model. That kind of accurate 3D data lets barrier sections be designed and built to fit the real-world conditions on site.
One highlight of the project was a visit from NASCAR legend Kyle Petty, who stopped by to thank Tad for the work.
Scanning projects like this keep our office busy as well as our field crews. Around the same time, we made a subtle upgrade to our scanning workstation, courtesy of our friends at Trimble Civil Construction. We appreciate their continued support.
Precise 3D scanning isn’t just for race tracks. The same tools and workflow help engineers, architects and owners document buildings, infrastructure and complex sites. Contact us to learn more.
